This role would be suitable for those who have excellent communication skills to develop a good relationship with students and staff and be confident to lead classes of up to 30 students. It may also appeal to individuals considering a career in Education. Experience of working within a secondary school environment is not essential, but would be an advantage as you will be supervising classes for absent teachers using the resources and cover plan they provide. You may also be asked to invigilate examinations and attend to other administrative tasks as required.

SEN Teaching Assistant – Saint George’s Church of England School 

This is a temporary position for one year in the first instance (dependent upon external funding)

Kent Range 4 £18,129-£19,239 per annum (pro rata to £13,999-£14,856 for term time hours)

Hours: 33.75 hours per week (Monday to Friday 8:15am-3:30pm), term time plus development days

Required to start in September 2020.

We are looking to appoint a SEN Teaching Assistant to support a child with severe and complex special educational needs.  Should the arrangement to support this child end during the fixed-term contract, the post-holder will be redeployed within the Academy Trust.

  • previous experience of working with children with specific needs in KS1
  • to be able to support the child with personal care needs
  • a high standard of maths and literacy skills with a secure understanding of English grammar
  • an awareness of phonics and how to apply this knowledge effectively to the teaching and learning of phonics within the classroom
  • an understanding of using assessment for learning, and assessing social and emotional development to enable children to make progress
  • an understanding of, or willingness to learn, the maths mastery approach
  • to be flexible, enthusiastic, willing to step in and be highly organised about all aspects of classroom operation
  • to provide wider support to the school i.e. undertake lunchtime supervision and play activities
  • to have high expectations of both yourself and children
  • to be self-motivated and show creativity when adapting learning to meet the needs of individuals
  • a belief in inclusion, diversity and the right of each child to be successful whatever their needs, abilities and background
  • to be able to inspire, motivate and foster excellent relationships, working in partnership with staff, parents, governors and our wider community
  • good interpersonal skills, a sense of humour and the ability to work as part of a hard-working, enthusiastic and committed team
  • to be committed to your own professional development and keen to make a significant contribution to the life of our school.
